Making Polymer Balls

We made some bouncy balls today that I had pinned on pinterest recently.  The instructions are here.  Ours didn't come out looking exactly like the picture, but the girls had a good time!

It was really neat to watch the process.  Later on in the evening, after the balls had been sitting for a while, they got harder and might have bounced if they hadn't been stretched into crazy shapes at that point.  I would like to try it again with clear glue because that makes the balls clear.

Done with Kindergarten!

We officially finished kindergarten today!  Now we have a month off before starting first grade and switching to a year-round schedule.  After we finished school, we went to the park for 2.5 hours and had a really good time.  Here are some pictures to sum up our day!  I didn't get any pictures of LB after he fell into the rose bush...he is a bit of a mess!

Holy Cow, It's Hot!

Pnut and I went to the track this morning, and it was already over 70 degrees at 6:15.  Yuck!  So we thought we would go to the playground at 8:00 to try to beat more heat. 

This is the ice cream truck.  LB was driving and Pnut served.  She had to spin many things before she could get our orders!

Pnut is finally able to go on the monkey bars a bit.  She is quite excited about it!

So our plan didn't really work out, and we were all quite sweaty by the time we got home, but I got great naps out of everybody! 

Did you know this week is the Sew, Mama, Sew giveaway week?  I know, but I keep forgetting so I have barely entered any of them!  I've won things a few times so it is fun to enter!

Our curriculum is coming in the mail now, and we are so excited we can barely contain ourselves!  Pnut wants to start the new year now!  I am putting the brakes on her and taking the whole month of June off.  I need a break!  We'll do some daily math and read some readers, but we aren't starting first grade yet!

We are having a very busy week, and I'm kind of surprised.  I didn't think this week was set up to be busy.  I'm in the process of switching winter to summer clothes for the kids so I guess that will make any week busy. 

We are starting nature study this year, and I think it is going to be very neat.  To show you how close to the edge I am getting in my enthusiasm...today I almost brought home a dead young bird.  It was laying beside the sidewalk and it's chest was covered with down but it's wings were feathered and beautiful.  I don't even like birds and I thought it was lovely!

Our table needs cleaned off, and I think a destructive fairy ran through our house so I had better go!

We had a nice, quiet day.  It was raining so Pnut and I didn't get to go to the track.  We are doing the Couch to 5K, but I am having to adjust the schedule for her.  It is fine with me, and I am enjoying getting regular exercise!  We are supposed to step it up a notch this week so I really hope it doesn't rain tomorrow morning and we can go to the track!

We went to the nursing home for our monthly visit and then to the grocery store where the girls picked some interesting food for their lunch.  We did school in the afternoon, and Pnut is just doing so well with her school.  She is enjoying both reading and math right now, and she is reading beautifully!  She isn't really sounding many words out anymore, and she is enjoying reading to both her sister and brother. 

We went to the library book sale tonight.  It was full of many temptations.  One thing that kept me from picking out more books is that some of them I can't tell if they are abridged or not.  I thought I had one that wasn't as it didn't say anything in the cover, and then I found another copy that was older (less likely to be abridged) and it had more in it than the one I was holding.  When editors abridge books, they tend to take out some of the moral content and also sometimes dumb down the language.  I'm trying to now fill out our library with only unabridged books.  It's amazing how much people mess with!

Track and Field Day

Our co-op had track and field day today, and it was a lot of fun!  Pnut participated in 6 events (against the girls in her group) and got 2 blue ribbons, 2 red ribbons, and 1 yellow.  She was just excited that she got ribbons; she has no idea what they mean:)  I played with some preschoolers on the playground, which was interesting.  Some of them weren't preschoolers but were younger and just wanted to leave and find their moms.  We had a good time though:)

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to blog as regularly or just do it twice a week or so.  It is hard to think of stuff to write about sometimes, and I hate to just ramble on here!  So don't be surprised if the posting becomes more sporadic:)

We went to get our milk today and I took the kids to Chick-Fil-A for a treat.  They all loved playing in the playground for a while.  The girls actually talked to some other kids there.  Then I had to ask the farmer the question of the week:  How do you tell the roosters from the hens.  I think we just need to take a tour of the farm so the girls can have all of their questions answered at one time.  Tomorrow is track and field day for co-op, and the girls are very excited.  It will be fun, but I have to have lunches made and be out the door a little before 8:00.  Oh well, if we could be ready to leave last Friday at 6:30, 8:00 sounds like a piece of cake!
