Some Progress!

Sorry for not posting last night; Joel's mom was here and we were talking. Joel plays basketball on Monday nights at a church and Jason likes to go with him so Jayne will come stay with me so that I don't have to be alone, which I appreciate!

I finally, finally sewed today! I did finish Pnut's pillowcase dress tonight, and Pilly's is close to being done. I have to finish sewing on her embellishments and do the casing for the ribbon ties. Hopefully (we'll see), I can finish it during naptime tomorrow and get a picture of them in their dresses. I also made a glasses case for a guy at Joel's work who had a birthday recently. He really likes the Steelers so Joel picked out the material. His birthday was only a few weeks ago. *Sigh* Someday I will get things done on time! We did buy the material after his birthday so it is not entirely on me...



We have had such a fun week so far! Yesterday we went to a local restaurant/grocery store that has a fun playground, a picnic area, and an ice cream shoppe. Our mom's group met there, and the girls (and I) had such a blast. There was a fun slide built inside a wooden silo that went around so many times. I was pretty dizzy by the time I got to the bottom! The girls just went up and down so many times! No wonder they are so skinny:) Today we went to a park that is a few miles down the road, and it was great. The last time we went, it was so crowded. For a while today, we were the only ones there. Then a few more people came but we had plenty of room to play! Tomorrow we will probably walk to our usual playground, but we have started trying to leave between 8:30-8:45 so it usually isn't crowded then!



They like to hold hands and run around. Super cute!

Short Recap

We had a very full day today! We left for the playground at 8:50 because it was going to be so warm today. There was nobody else there for a while, and it was awesome! I am willing to leave even earlier if we can get ready!!! I don't mind a few other people, but when it gets overrun with people, it can be overwhelming and frustrating to try to keep an eye on both girls. When we came back, we painted our toes, and froze juice in ice cube trays. Then we went out to the swimming pool for a little dip:) Of course, it is only a baby pool so I couldn't dip too. I didn't bother getting my clothes wet today, only stuck my feet in. It still felt girls, especially when I let the girls pour water over my legs. They liked it when I used the watering can to pour water on them, they are so cute:) We read about Harold and the Purple Crayon and played Hi Ho Cherry-O. I got to sew a little bit during nap because there wasn't much work. I, surprise, surprise, had a hard time with some elastic on Pnut's dress, so I spent most of the time digging out lost elastic from inside the casing with a pencil. Several times. After nap, we made sno-cones in our Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine that Joel and I picked up at a yard sale before we had children. This was the first time we got to use it, and the girls were super-excited. We used our frozen juice cubes and had some delicious sno cone. It was just a lovely day. The days go so much better when I have things planned out that I want to do. It doesn't dray by and the girls are happier because they know what to expect. Tomorrow is cleaning day so they know for sure what to expect then!

A Post Full of Pilly

Regina Spektor has a new album called Far that I am really enjoying.

This morning we went to the "Apple Store" and brought home apples, strawberries, and cherries. Yum! We had a delicious lunch. I even let Pilly feed herself yogurt. I put it on the spoon and she put it in her mouth. Or that is what she tried to do.



Before lunch, I set up the swimming pool and had to fill it with buckets from the sink again because Joel cannot get the old hose off without some sort of tool. I had dumped one bucket in and was inside waiting for the next one to fill when Pnut came racing in having to go to the potty. I lifted her over the gate to go upstairs and then went out to check on Pilly...who had gotten into the swimming pool clothes, sandals, and all. When Pnut came back down, she stripped down to her underwear and got in too. After carrying 435 buckets outside, I went out to supervise, and it was hot!! So I got in in my clothes too:) We had fun. I am glad we got in because they put on their swimming suits after nap and went out and it was actually chilly outside! Not really good weather for swimming. We are having crazy summer weather here. I don't mind for sure!

This morning, Pilly was holding Java on her lap and she was feeding him a magnet and then taking bites herself. (It was a food magnet.)



She does love that puppy!



Poor Pnut, no pictures of her. She wanted me to take a picture of her holding the dog, but she was only holding him when she was just in underwear so I didn't really want to do that...

They like to flip the little couch upside down and roll down it. They are weird.

Joel brought home a book that was donated to the library that the library didn't want and was in the free section. It is an etiquette book. I thought I would share an excerpt from the Dress and Manners section:

Swimming: Any woman less bony than a shad looks ridiculous in a bra-top bathing suit and one that doesn't at least partly cover her thighs. If she has anything even slightly resembling a rubber tire around the middle, let her choose a bathing suit that will cover, or better, mildly control it, as do well-cut lastex suits. The dressmaker suit is a boon to less than perfect figures. To swim is to make a very public appearance. Legs and underarms should be meticously groomed, and feet should be carefully pedicured.

Maybe we should all have to read this before choosing swimming suits!!:)

Craft Hope

I love the smell of Era laundry detergent.

We had a softball game tonight, and we were all filthy by the time we got home. The dust was not packed down nearly as much as it was earlier in the year. Pilly's face was covered in dirt, and her hands were wet and she rubbed them in the dirt. It was great to have a game after so long off, and we had a good time. I don't think I watched any of the game. So bad.

I wanted to introduce you all to a neat site I found called Craft Hope. Their statement says "Craft Hope is a faith-based, love inspired project designed to share handmade crafts with those less fortunate. It is our hope to combine our love for crafting and desire to help others into a project to make a difference around the world." I am so excited about this site because we are so blessed here and to be able to share our blessings with the less fortunate is awesome! They sent pillowcase dresses and handkerchief pants to Mexico and dolls to Nicaragua. The new project is blankets, hats, and booties for newborns in India. JoAnn's is having their flannel on sale starting Sunday, so I think I am going to buy some and make some blankets. I am so excited. Hopefully the dog cooperates!

Tomorrow is looking a little warm. We went to the big playground this morning and it wasn't too crowded. The pool is not open yet though. They need to get on the ball! I don't know if we will actually go there because I am sure it will be crowded!

Three Troublemakers

I'm tired of flies. They are annoying.

In other news, I am still working on Pilly's pillowcase dress. If it is not one thing, it's another...I ran out of white thread tonight. Since the spool is also white, I couldn't tell I was almost out. My area isn't very well lit. Perhaps that is the cause of all my problems:)

Java got his weekly bath tonight. I think it is worth giving him a bath just to see him race around the house afterward. Hilarious.



He doesn't think so.

We went over to the house of a couple from church this morning to watch their four little girls while they went on a date. The girls are six and under so we just have a ton of fun. Pnut loves to play with them and on their "playground." Pilly likes to ride in their jeep. She sits in the driver's seat and yanks the steering wheel towards her and pushes it back like that will make it move.



I moved Pilly up to her booster seat at the table. So far she has not dumped her plate so I am pleased. Doesn't that face just spell trouble?



Pnut tried to get out of nap today, but she was thwarted. I just left her there for an hour until she finally went to sleep. She thinks if she lays there long enough she can come down and watch TV. Wrong! The girls have not watched any TV for two days, and on Saturday they only watched a little while we were at Joel's grandmother's. Other than that, there have been 15 minutes of George one day and one episode of Bunnytown on DVD. Yay! Now if I could only convince their father, we could be rid of the thing. But, on the other hand, how would I watch Japanese Gameshow? :) I think I would live!

Tomorrow is our only softball game of the week, and there are none next week. This is lame. I miss my friends! The girls and I will probably go to a playground in the morning, but I am not sure which one. I would like to go back to the new one, but the neighborhood we had to walk through made me nervous. I would also like to see if the pool at the other one is open. Or maybe I could just keep them in the back area and not have to interact with the public at all. That certainly sounds like the best option to me.

Alright then, I am off. I hear a Peanut Butter No Bake cookie calling my name. No, I didn't make them, Joel brought them home from work. Have a great night!

Lollipops and Tea Parties

My Aunt Tammy was here to visit and meet Java. I asked Pnut what she wanted to show Aunt Tammy on our walk, and she said the lollipop store. It may have just been a ploy to get us there because of course they came home with lollipops. Pilly flipped out during lunch because she wanted hers. Here she is after she received her cotton candy cow:



Pnut is a huge fan of the butterfly lollipops. Today she picked blueberry, licked it for a few times, and then decided she didn't like it.



After nap, the girls had a tea party. I had set it up on a towel for Pnut to find when she came down the stairs, and she was thrilled!



Animal crackers were on the menu today.



The tea was delicious.



Pilly was fascinated with the silverware. Someday I will let her feed herself messy food. Someday.



This guy has learned to come and is learning to sit. He is getting it, but still jumps some when I put my hand up. He expects a treat every time.

I was able to work on the pillowcase dress for Pilly for a few minutes today. I think that opening the ironing board wakes the girls up. I think I am going to sew some buttons on tonight for relaxation. The only think I will have to do is put the ribbons in the armholes. We are headed to Joel's family tomorrow until Saturday night. Short Stories

I meant to post this last night, but I was distracted and forgot:) When I was taking the girls to the playground, there was a man from a security office going into a building. He said, "Are those your children or your little sisters?" Hahahaha. I told him they were mine. He said that I didn't look old enough to have two children, I said I was 24, and he said that I looked 16. Nice.

Tonight, we went to the mall. VS is having an awesome sale, and there is a coupon for $10 off your purchase of $50. Our mall is also giving away $10 gift cards if you are part of their email club. So I got two bras for $34. That is a good price no matter where they are from, but from VS!!! Seventeen dollars a bra, are you kidding me??!!

You know what, it hasn't been that long since I could even say bra. I used to call the sarb (bras backwards) because I was too embarrassed to say it. Probably if we were face to face I wouldn't be able to mention it without my face turning red!

Today was a rather unproductive day. The girls were not very pleasant because we couldn't go outside to play in the rain. They seemed so tired, and I am trying to keep them from watching TV so I had to entertain them. I don't mind, they were just grouchy. There was a problem with something on our computer being changed so I couldn't view my patient list for work so I was not able to do very much. I did go through a bag of clothing from my sister tonight (thanks Randa), and Jackie, you will be getting quite a few clothes for Kake soon! I hope you are ready for this!!

Oooh, I almost forgot the biggest news of the night. Tonight was the return of my all-time favorite summer show "I Survived a Japanese Game Show." I would not go on that show for sure, but it is hilarious to watch!!! They are ridiculous:)

New Playground!

Does your child do this? When Pilly decides she is done, she feels the need to shred everything else on her tray. I don't ever remember Pnut doing it. She usually smashes fruit with her finger and rips everything else up. Drives me crazy!!

We found a new playground today and are super excited about it. I don't think many people know about it and it only takes about five minutes or so to walk there. Not much or a workout for me, but totally worth not having to battle the crowds or get in the car!!

Yesterday, Joel's mom and brother came up. Joel and Jason went to a store 45 minutes away and then went straight to the softball game and then to play basketball. I couldn't believe that Joel didn't just fall into bed when he got home. Jayne and I had fun. We made supper on the grill and ate on the porch, which Pnut loved! She thinks anything outside is a picnic:)

I am having trouble typing because I am trying to listen to Hannity at the same time. I may as well go in there and fold my laundry!:)

Toffee Bars

Yum. That's all you need to know.

One 4-ounce sleeve saltine crackers
8 T butter
1.5 packed light brown sugar
one 12-ounce package semisweet chocolate chips

1. Prehaet oven to 400 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with edges (jelly roll pan) with foil and spray with cooking spray. Line with crackers, using broken pieces to fill in edges.
2. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for three minutes, stirring constantly with a whisk. Pour mixture evenly over the crackers and bake until bubbling, about five minutes.
3. Remove the pan from teh oven and sprinkle the top with chocolate chips. Allow the chocolate to melt slightly then spread it evenly with a spatula all the way to the edges of the pan. Let stand for 10-15 minutes to cool slightly, then cut into squares. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

I had to stick it back in the oven after I poured the chocolate chips on to get them to melt well enough. I also had to put it in the fridge to cool it enough. I am warning you now, these are slightly addictive. Super sweet. So easy though because the ingredients are almost always on hand! In case you are wondering, this is a Paula Deen recipe. That is why it has a stick of delicious butter in it:)

Naughty Dog.

I'm ready to go crazy here! I have these two little dresses I want to try to make the girls out of pillowcases, pillowcases that I bough last Friday, but I can't do it because of the crazy dog. I spread my stuff out on the floor, not only to cut the material, but I also have to take everything off of the top of my machine because that is the storage space for my in-progress projects. So the dog just loves everything to be spread out on the floor. So much to eat! I'm sure he would really enjoy ingesting a pin. Maybe if I let him do that, he would leave my stuff alone. Ha! Highly doubtful. As soon as the girls go to bed, the dog turns into some kind of maniac. It is like he knows that we are ready for our evening relaxing and wants to play and chew on your arm or toes. He barks and is just generally a naughty puppy. The vet said cage training was good for him. I'm all for it!

He just gave me a kiss. Then he fell on the floor. What a weirdo.

We had to leave him here tonight in his cage for three hours, or I probably would put him in it this evening to do something. We had a softball game, and I am so glad he was not there. It rained. Wet dogs are the worst!

So yes, it rained at the softball game, and we all huddled under umbrellas and the girls got all wet. I am glad we went and got some energy out though. It was the longest five innings ever. Thank goodness for the 10-run rule.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a wonderful day. Joel took the day off and he is taking Pilly out in the morning for a special treat. He has done it with Pnut several times, but this will be Pilly's first. I am supposed to go out with Lynn tomorrow night, which I am looking forward to a lot! I hope your day goes great

A Brief Synopsis

We drove to a playground this morning and had a lot of fun there! Yesterday, we went to our local playground, and since school is over, it was overrun with teenagers. They were ordered off of the playground equipment, but they were still around, cursing and behaving in ways that my little girls don't need to see. So today we drove to a playground. The downside is that I am missing out on the exercise of walking, but I felt like I got plenty following the girls around in the oppressive humidity. I think that weight should just melt off in the humidity but I am relatively certain that it doesn't work like that. I am sure if it did, a lot more people would live in humid states!

Tonight we went to the book sale that the library is having. It was huge! It was at the alumni center of a local college and filled it up. I couldn't believe how many books there were! I got a John Grishman novel for $1 and we got a few other things. Unreal! No good sewing books though.

Java had his first check-up today. He weighs a whopping 5.2 pounds! The vet thinks he is a very dominant male and would benefit from a puppy training course. However, we don't have $109 to take one. I think that in the long run it would benefit us greatly, but we just don't have the money right now. I think that I will check out a puppy training book and try to implement that. (In case you were wondering...he still doesn't like to ride in the car, especially not in his carrier)

I want to work on a project for the girls, but I have to measure them for it so we will see if I can do that while they sleep. Or I might just read my new book. Laziness sometimes possesses me during the summer!

How Far We Have Come...

One week ago she definitely would not have been doing this! She wanted to have her picture taken with the puppy on her lap. She loves to hold him and carry him places. So sweet!

We had a softball game in the hot sticky weather and that was tiring! Joel went to basketball so Java and I are going to watch the hilariously funny Thin Blue Line of British comedy fame:)

When I Go Out...

I went out by myself tonight. I had to go to the pet store and just wanted some time with no demands! I had fun, got to look at some sewing books at Barnes and Noble. Then when I returned home, I was greeted by two excited little girls who made me feel like a million bucks. They do miss me when I am gone, which is nice. Pilly and Java both cried when I left. Silly little guys:)

I found out that there were some shenanigans while I was gone. Apparently, Java pulled Pilly's pants off. Joel also let the girls color with markers. If I let Pilly use markers, I always stay at the table with her. Here is what she did when I turned around to get a wet wash cloth. Maybe Joel doesn't watch the girls enough and needs some more practice because he went to the computer and sat there while they colored. This is what he returned to:





He said it was everywhere. She colored all over the table. I found it in her ear. Her hands have a reddish-orange hue, thank heavens she didn't do blue on them! At least they are washable!

Update

Don't worry, all of you who felt bad for Java last night. I couldn't do it. He came to bed with us and behaved beautifully. We took his pig ear up, and whenever he wanted to play, he just played with that. Joel had said before that he was afraid that if we put him in the crate, he would continue to get day and night mixed up because he would cry all night in his crate. I certainly didn't want that. He was laying with me on the couch before I went up and he looked at me with his cute little face and I just couldn't do it!

A Day of Silliness

Today was a day full of silliness. We weren't especially trying but it just worked out like that. First though, a puppy update:



Java really is cute, even if he is naughtier than naughty! He spent his last night in our bed if I have anything to do with it last night. Joel was rather disgusted with him, especially when he ended up getting up at 4:30 with him. He got us up so many times during the night. He just kept biting and playing and jumping around.



When I look at pictures like this, I have a hard time being so hardhearted with him, but I need sleep. I haven't gotten a full night of sleep in a week. It is not fair to the girls because I am cross with them just because I am tired. So either he is sleeping downstairs or I am going to sleep on the couch. Don't be surprised if I come back and say that I slept on the couch because Joel wanted him to sleep in bed!

So on to the silliness! In the mornings, Pilly and Java are always excited to see each other. When she gets down from the table after breakfast, they will play together for quite a while. She loves to get her morning kisses, and he is excited that someone is letting him kiss them. Pnut does not like doggy kisses, and neither do I! Anyways, this morning I was sitting at the computer and looked over because I heard giggles. I couldn't snap the picture quick enough to get Java in it, but here is Pilly:



When Java was back there, his little rear end was sticking out with his tail wagging.

Later, Pnut and I had to go upstairs, and when we were coming back down the stair, we heard squeak, squeak, squeak. Here is what we saw:



That orange is Java's bone underneath her and she was bopping up and down on top of it. Then Pnut had to do it so she could have her picture taken too:



And the final big silliness occurred after nap. I was in the middle of a job when the girls got up so I brought them down and went back to work. I heard "I stuck, I stuck. Sttuuuuckkk." I turned around and had to grab the camera!



I am still laughing thinking about it.

This morning since Joel was up so early, he went to get us donuts. Much to our delight The Fractured Prune just opened up in the city. They relocated here from a smaller town about half an hour away, and we couldn't be more excited! We would make the drive sometimes but not often because it was quite far to go for a treat! They make donuts that are kind of cakey, which I do not usually like, but they serve them warm and have all sorts of delicious glazes and toppings. I love the lemon with granulated sugar. Joel likes the maple glaze. I want to try the pumpkin glaze but I cannot decide what topping to get. Just delicious. If anyone in the area is interested, it is at the corner of Queen and Walnut. They open at 6:00 during the week and 7:00 on the weekends. We now how the menu:)

I think I have tweaked the salsa recipe to how I want it. Now I need to try it out on my dad and Jackie and get their opinions. It was good when I tasted it out of the food processor, just the right amount of spice to it. It was spicy when I stuck it in my mouth but faded quickly, which is the green pepper and red onion, I think. Jackie suggested I add cilantro, which I think gives it a smoky sort of quality that I like. The ultimate test will be tasting it cold and seeing if it gives me heartburn. If it is too spicy for me, it will. I will be excited if they both like it a lot though!!

I have a project I want to work on tonight, but we will see what Joel wants to do. Have a great evening!!

Oatmeal Cookies

We have been inside since Sunday. We are going a little stir crazy so I tried to do something different today than every other day. Therefore we made cookies. We certainly can't make cookies every day or we would all way 500 pounds!

These are some of the best oatmeal cookies that I have ever eaten! They have cinnamon in and smell so good when they are cooking. It is worth making them just to smell them. Maybe I don't have a lot of experience with oatmeal cookies, but I thought these were great! They were pretty soft too. Joel suggested using them as a sandwich for ice cream, which sounds like a great idea to me!

1 c butter, softened
1 c white sugar
1 c packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 t vanilla
2 c all-purpose flour
1 t baking soda
1 t salt
1.5 t cinnamon
3 c quick-cooking oats

1. In a medium bowl (or bowl of stand mixer), cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in separate bowl, stir into the creamed mixture. Mix in oats. Cover and chill dough for at least one hour.
2. Preheat the oven to 375. Grease cookie sheets (which I only remembered to do the first time they went in). Spoon dough onto pan.
3. Bake for 8-10 minutes in preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for a few minutes and then transfer to cooling rack.

It says that you can flatten the cookies with a sugar-coated fork, but I think they would be crispier if you flatten them before baking. It took a little more than 10 minutes to bake them, but again, I am not too sure about baking inside a gas oven. Someone needs to make an oven that has gas burner and electric oven. That would be great!

Favorite Show

Today was a tiring day so I am going to take the night off to relax. Between not getting enough sleep from the dog at night and the girls being kind of cranky, I am just ready for bed. I think I will be heading there as soon as Wipeout is over. But I wanted to post to tell you that my favorite summer show is coming back for another year! It is this hilarious show on ABC called "I Survived a Japanese Game Show." Awesome!! Have a great night:)

A Story for My Dad

Yesterday was such an incredibly busy day! We had mom's group in the morning, got home and after nap Joel's brother came for supper. After supper, there was softball and then I drove the puppy and girls home by myself. Joel and Jason were going to play basketball at a church that is doing Monday night basketball. The ride home was horrible. I would like you to imagine 20 minutes of a poor puppy yelping, screaming in his cage while I am trying to drive and Pnut keeps saying "stop screaming Java." I am not looking forward to taking him to the vet next week. Ugh. When we got home, I put the girls to bed after comforting Java for a few minutes, and then Java and I laid on the couch for an hour and a half watching episodes of the Thin Blue Line that Joel got out of the library for me. That was nice!:)

Java is just like a baby. He wants attention all the time when he is awake. He follows me from room to room, and if he is awake when I am working, he thinks we should be like this:

It was raining on and off today so we didn't go to the playground. The girls have this neat paper and markers from Crayola that is neon when it dries on the paper. They really enjoy using it, but I try to save it for days when we have to stay inside. Pilly actually has excellent fine motor skills (I think anyways). She draws circles. She doesn't know what they are, but she makes a circular motion. Pnut is getting very good at coloring in the lines on pictures. She loves to color in eyes. She will go through her coloring books turning the pages and coloring in the eyes. I digress though. Here is Pnut's artwork:



It is hard to catch her smiling because she will do a big one for the camera but she doesn't hold it long enough.

Now, I would like you to go back and look at those pictures in case you didn't notice. Look at both girls' left hands. Pnut was tracing her hand, and Pilly saw her doing it. I stepped away to get a wet washcloth or something, and I turned around and Pilly's arm was orange! That girl.

Isn't she so lovely and charming and with such beautiful eyes? What a sweet baby! This little girl has been a delight since she was born. She was such an easy baby and gets along so well with her sister. She is funny and cute and loves to give kisses. I fear for that. I am afraid it is all coming to an end. Tonight, we were in the living room, and she picked her nose and wiped a booger on the couch. My sweet baby! How could she do such a thing?! I have an even better story though. My dad will like this story. Everyone else will probably be disgusted.

This morning while I was taking my shower, the girls and dog were supposed to be in the girls' room. As I was turning off the water, Pnut starts yelling, "Mommy, Sissy has poop on her hands!" Then Pilly comes into the bathroom with arms extended saying "poop." Her hands and arm were smeared with it. Apparently, Java had pooped on Pnut's bed and Pilly handled it. When I ran into the room to find the poop (after cleaning her up), I could not find it. Not anywhere. I was panicing. I asked Pnut where it was, and she said "She ate it." Oh my. I was horrorfied. I couldn't believe it. I checked all over their room, though, and I couldn't find it anywhere. I smelled Pilly's breath, and it didn't smell like poop so I didn't think she could have. Especially without throwing up. I ran down to our room to find the dog who had disappeared, and while there, I noticed a few pieces on the floor. Apparently, he had actually gone in our room and just got a little on her bed and Pilly smashed all of that. Oh, the relief I felt. But still, why is she even handling that stuff? Gross!

So tonight, after this crazy day, I am feeling rather unmotivated. I can't quite decide what project to start next. I am trying to work out patterns for the girls pants so that they fit correctly. I don't want to waste anymore material so I want to get it right. I should probably try it out in muslin first. I don't know if I will, but I know I should. I think I will go devour some ice cream. *Sigh* I worry about my widening rear end, but I don't help it by eating ice cream every night.
